In the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of DMK won in this seat defeating Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan of BJP by a margin of 3,47,209 votes which was 35.03% of the total votes cast for the seat. DMK had a vote share of 56.77% in 2019 in this seat.

In 2014, J Jayasingh Thiyagaraj Natterjee of AIADMK emerged victorious in this seat beating Jegan P of DMK by a margin of 1,24,002 votes which was 13.53% of the total votes polled in the constituency. AIADMK secured a vote share of 39.93% in the seat.
