In the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections, Dr K Jayakumar of INC won in this seat defeating Dr P Venugopal of AIADMK by a margin of 3,56,955 votes which was 25.35% of the total votes cast for the seat. INC had a vote share of 54.48% in 2019 in this seat.

In 2014, P Venugopal of AIADMK emerged victorious in this seat beating RavikumarD of VCK by a margin of 3,23,430 votes which was 25.78% of the total votes polled in the constituency. AIADMK secured a vote share of 50.1% in the seat.
