In the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections, Baalu T R of DMK won in this seat defeating Vaithilingam A of PMK by a margin of 5,07,955 votes which was 36.11% of the total votes cast for the seat. DMK had a vote share of 56.37% in 2019 in this seat.

In 2014, Ramachandran K N of AIADMK emerged victorious in this seat beating Jagathrakshakan, S Thiru of DMK by a margin of 1,02,646 votes which was 7.98% of the total votes polled in the constituency. AIADMK secured a vote share of 42.42% in the seat.
