Pakistan Parliamentary Election 2024

16th Pakistan National Assembly Elections

Pakistan has held elections for a new parliament on February 8, 2024. As many as 44 political parties are vying for a share of the 266 seats that are up for grabs in the National Assembly, or the lower house of parliament, with an additional 70 seats reserved for women and minorities. Experts agree that in the current political landscape, there really seems to be only one top contender for the post of Pakistan Prime Minister — Nawaz Sharif, a three-time former premier who has returned to the country and been absolved of past convictions. His archrival, former prime minister Imran Khan, who was ousted in April 2022, is behind bars and banned from contesting.
