This constituency covers an approximate area of 4333.28 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 21°27'25.6"N 77°06'59.8"E.
A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Maharashtra share borders with Melghat constituency, which are: Jalgaon Jamod, Akot, Daryapur, Achalpur. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Burhanpur, Khandwa and Betul districts of Madhya Pradesh.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Rajkumar Dayaram Patel of PHJSP won in this constituency beating Ramesh Mawaskar of BJP by a margin of 41,357 votes which was 22.73% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Bhilawekar Prabhdas Babulal of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Rajkumar Dayaram Patel of NCP by a margin of 1,979 votes which was 1.13% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Kale Kewalram Tulshiram of INC won this seat defeating Patel Rajkumar Dayaram of BJP by a margin of 710 votes which was 0.49% of the total votes polled for the seat.
