This constituency covers an approximate area of 767.91 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 16°22'42.2"N 74°14'57.5"E.

A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Maharashtra share borders with Kagal constituency, which are: Radhanagari, Chandgad, Kolhapur South, Hatkanangle. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Belgavi district of Karnataka.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Mushrif Hasan Miyalal of NCP won in this constituency beating Ghatge Samarjeetsinh Vikramsinh of IND by a margin of 27,673 votes which was 10.50% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Mushrif Hasan Miyalal of NCP was the winner in this seat beating Ghatage Sanjay Anandrao of SS by a margin of 5,934 votes which was 2.36% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Mushrif Hasan Miyalal of NCP won this seat defeating Sanjaysinh (Dada) Sadashivrao Mandalik of IND by a margin of 46,412 votes which was 20.49% of the total votes polled for the seat.
