Kovalam Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of Thiruvananthapuram district in the Travancore region of Kerala: Kalliyoor and Venganoor Panchayats in Thiruvananthapuram Taluk and Balaramapuram, Kanjiramkulam, Karumkulam, Kottukal, Poovar and Vizhinjam Panchayats in Neyyattinkara Taluk.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 88 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Kovalam is: 8°23'12.5"N 77°01'31.1"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 70.94%, while it was 74.24% in 2016, and 68.09% in 2011.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, Adv M Vincent of INC won in this constituency beating Neelalohithadasan Nadar of JDS by a margin of 11562 votes which was 7.3% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Adv.M.Vincent of INC was the winner in this seat beating Jameela Prakasam of JDS by a margin of 2615 votes which was 1.7% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Jameela Prakasam of JDS won this seat defeating Adv.George Mercier of INC by a margin of 7205 votes which was 5.76% of the total votes polled for the seat.
