Ramgarh comprises of the following areas of Ramgarh district in the North Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Ramgarh police station (excluding Gram Panchayats , Terpa, Patratu, Koto, Palani, Haphua, Hariharpur, Gegda, Deoria, Bargama, Pali, Salge, Sanki, Jabo, Chaingara, Chikor, Lapanga, Ghutua, Barkakana and Sidhwar-Kalan) and Gola police station in Hazaribagh Sadar sub-division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 618.03 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°33'13.0"N 85°40'53.0"E.

A total of five Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Ramgarh constituency, which are: Barkagaon, Mandu, Gomia, Silli, Khijri. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Purulia district of West Bengal.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Mamta Devi of INC won in this constituency beating Sunita Choudhary of AJSUP by a margin of 28,718 votes which was 12.84% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Chandra Prakash Choudhary of AJSU was the winner in this seat beating Shahzada Anwar of INC by a margin of 53,818 votes which was 26.67% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Chandra Prakash Choudhary of AJSU won this seat defeating Shahzada Anwar of INC by a margin of 25,475 votes which was 16.29% of the total votes polled for the seat.
