This constituency covers an approximate area of 697.14 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°59'24.0"N 86°38'31.9"E.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Irfan Ansari of INC won in this constituency beating Birendra Mandal of BJP by a margin of 38,741 votes which was 18.24% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Irfan Ansari of INC was the winner in this seat beating Birendra Mandal of BJP by a margin of 9,137 votes which was 4.76% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Bishnu Prasad Bhaiya of JMM won this seat defeating Furkan Ansari of INC by a margin of 12,843 votes which was 9.53% of the total votes polled for the seat.
