A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Godda constituency, which are: Mahagama, Borio, Barhait, Poreyahat. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Banka district of Bihar.

In 2014, Raghu Nandan Mandal of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Sanjay Prasad Yadav of RJD by a margin of 34,486 votes which was 19.27% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Sanjay Prasad Yadav of RJD won this seat defeating Raghu Nandan Mandal of BJP by a margin of 8,755 votes which was 6.25% of the total votes polled for the seat.
