This constituency covers an approximate area of 950.49 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 24°12'33.1"N 86°23'27.6"E.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Dr Sarfraz Ahmad of JMM won in this constituency beating Jai Prakash Verma of BJP by a margin of 8,855 votes which was 04.73% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Jai Prakash Verma of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Salakhan Soren of JMM by a margin of 10,279 votes which was 6.08% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Sarfraz Ahmad of INC won this seat defeating Salkhan Soren of JMM by a margin of 8,455 votes which was 6.45% of the total votes polled for the seat.
