Spread over 14 days and three phases, this is the first assembly election in Jammu & Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state. Out of the 90 assembly constituencies, 9 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and 7 for Scheduled Castes. 88.03 lakh electors are eligible to vote and the results are set to be announced on October 8, 2024.
The last assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir took place in 2014. This was followed by a period of caretaker and coalition governments, and Governor's Rule until 2018, when the assembly was dissolved. Subsequently, under President's Rule in 2019, the Union government restructured the state into two separate Union territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
