Udai Bhan is the president of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee and a former four-time MLA. He represented the Hodal constituency from 2014 to 2019. He previously also represented the former constituency of Hassanpur in 1987, 2000, and 2005. Udai Bhan’s father Gaya Lal was also elected as an MLA from the Hassanpur seat multiple times. In 1967, Gaya Lal changed parties four times within one day. After this the phrase "Aaya Ram Gaya Ram" became popular, describing the act of frequent political defection. Bhan will contest from the Hodal seat for the Congress in the October 5 assembly elections.
