This constituency covers an approximate area of 122 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Jaynagar is: 22°09'42.1"N 88°28'54.5"E.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Biswanath Das of TMC won in this constituency beating Rabin Sardar of BJP by a margin of 38683 votes which was 19.22% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Biswanath Das of TMC was the winner in this seat beating Sujit Patwari of INC by a margin of 15051 votes which was 8.44% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Tarun Kanti Naskar of SUCI won this seat defeating Shyamali Halder of CPIM by a margin of 26590 votes which was 18.35% of the total votes polled for the seat.
