Katol comprises of the following areas of Nagpur district in the Vidharbha region of Maharashtra: Narkhed Tehsil, Katol Tehsil, Nagpur (Rural) Tehsil (Part), Revenue Circle Wadi (Part A), Villages, Bandhara, Kavdimet, Sirpur, Bhuyari, Khairi, Amgaon, Dhaga, Bajargaon, Khapri, Shiwa, Sawanga, Wanjara, Pachnavari, Satnavari, Malegaon Kh, Malegaon Bk, Padri khapa, Mohgaon bk, Mohgaon kh, Dhamna, Linga, Pethkaldongari, Chandrapur and Vyahad.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1677.47 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 21°17'23.6"N 78°34'57.4"E.

A total of five Assembly constituencies in the state of Maharashtra share borders with Katol constituency, which are: Morshi, Savner, Hingna, Wardha, Arvi. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh.

In 2014, Dr Ashish Deshmukh of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Anil Deshmukh of NCP by a margin of 5,557 votes which was 3.13% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Anil Deshmukh of NCP won this seat defeating Charansing Babulalji Thakur of RPI(A) by a margin of 32,203 votes which was 20.08% of the total votes polled for the seat.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Anil Deshmukh of NCP had a vote share of 50.96% in this seat. In 2014, Dr Ashish Deshmukhof BJP secured a vote share of 39.6% in this constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Anil Deshmukh of NCP got a vote share of 42.49% in Katol.
