A total of two Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Mahagama constituency, which are: Borio, Godda. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Bhagalpur and Banka districts of Bihar.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Deepika Pandey Singh of INC won in this constituency beating Ashok Kumar of BJP by a margin of 12,499 votes which was 06.37% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Ashok Kumar of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Shahid Iqbal of JVM by a margin of 31,560 votes which was 17.5% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Rajesh Ranjan of INC won this seat defeating Ashok Kumar of BJP by a margin of 8,186 votes which was 5.82% of the total votes polled for the seat.
