Latehar comprises of the following areas of Latehar district in the North Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Latehar (Notified Area Council), Gram Panchayats Pochra, Luti, Kaima, Kura, Bishunpur, Mungar, Nindir, Laharpur and Zalim in Latehar police station, Chandwa and Balumath police stations in Latehar sub-division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1858.24 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°47'26.5"N 84°43'46.2"E.

A total of six Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Latehar constituency, which are: Manika, Panki, Simaria, Kanke, Mandar, Lohardaga. This constituency shares an inter-state border with .

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Baidyanath Ram of JMM won in this constituency beating Prakash Ram of BJP by a margin of 16,328 votes which was 08.97% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Prakash Ram of JVM was the winner in this seat beating Brajmohan Ram of BJP by a margin of 26,787 votes which was 16.72% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Baidyanath Ram of BJP won this seat defeating Prakash Ram of RJD by a margin of 438 votes which was 0.42% of the total votes polled for the seat.
