This constituency covers an approximate area of 928.87 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 22°33'47.2"N 86°29'02.8"E.
A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Ghatsila constituency, which are: Baharagora, Potka, Jugsalai. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Purulia and Jhargram districts of West Bengal, Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Ramdas Soren of JMM won in this constituency beating Lakhan Chandra Mardi of BJP by a margin of 6,724 votes which was 03.95% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Lakshman Tudu of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Ramdas Soren of JMM by a margin of 6,403 votes which was 3.96% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Ramdas Soren of JMM won this seat defeating Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu of INC by a margin of 1,192 votes which was 0.94% of the total votes polled for the seat.
