Chandankyari comprises of the following areas of Bokaro district in the North Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Chandankiyari police station and Gram Panchayats : Bijulia, Alkusa, Buribinor, Khamarbendi, Dhudhigajar, Kura, Dabartupara, Jaitara, Pudru and Sardaha in Chas police station in Baghmar sub-division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 568.07 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°34'19.2"N 86°17'49.9"E.

A total of five Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Chandankyari constituency, which are: Bokaro, Baghmara, Dhanbad, Jharia, Sindri. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Purulia district of West Bengal.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Amar Kumar Bauri of BJP won in this constituency beating Uma Kant Rajak of AJSUP by a margin of 9,211 votes which was 05.17% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Amar Kumar Bauri of JVM was the winner in this seat beating Uma Kant Rajak of AJSU by a margin of 34,164 votes which was 21.34% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Umakant Rajak of AJSU won this seat defeating Amar Kumar Bauri of JVM by a margin of 3,517 votes which was 2.93% of the total votes polled for the seat.
