Ambala City shares its borders with four other Assembly constituencies. Other Haryana Assembly constituencies adjacent to Ambala City are: Ambala Cantt, Mulana, Shahbad, Pehowa. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Punjab.

In 2014, Aseem Goel of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Venod Sharma of HJCPV by a margin of 23,252 votes which was 14.4% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Venod Sharma of INC won this seat defeating Bibi Charanjeet Kaur Mallour of SAD by a margin of 35,550 votes which was 27.02% of the total votes polled for the seat.
